Position
Permanent position based in Athlone Industria, Cape Town.

Role
Southern Wind Shipyard is looking for an experienced onboard engineer to support the Technical Coordinator Systems in the specification, implementation, commissioning, and sea trials of yacht systems.
This role combines office-based technical coordination with hands-on work onboard during installation, testing, and final commissioning.

Main Responsibilities
•    Assist with the development of system specifications and technical documentation.
•    Support the implementation and integration of yacht systems during build.
•    Coordinate with production teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
•    Assist with commissioning, troubleshooting, harbour trials, and sea trials.
•    Help maintain accurate drawings, manuals, and as-built documentation.

Requirements
•    Minimum 2 years’ experience as an onboard engineer on yachts or ships.
•    Engineering education or relevant maritime technical qualifications are preferred.
•    Practical knowledge of onboard systems such as hydraulics, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, water makers, and auxiliary systems.
•    Experience with commissioning and fault finding.
•    Good computer skills such as excel, outlook, etc.
•    Practical knowledge of technical drawings and suppliers installation requirements
•    Good communication skills, attention to detail, and a hands-on approach.
•    Ability to work under pressure and collaborate across teams.

Remuneration
Salary will be aligned with experience and industry standards.
