Job Description:

The organisation is looking for permanent employee to join her technical office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of electrical, electronic and PLC systems layout, choice and ordering of materials, supervising installation.

This post is based at our manufacturing site in Athlone Industria, Cape Town.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Systems Integration: Collaborate with Systems and Electrical/Electronics Coordinators to integrate hydraulic and PLC systems across vessel platforms
  • High Voltage & Hybrid Propulsion: Support design and implementation of energy storage, shore charging, DC-DC conversion, and hybrid propulsion systems including motor/pitch control
  • Electrical Systems: Define electric users, loads, board positions, cable runs, and trunking layouts
    Supplier Management: Review supplier schematics, coordinate component selection, manage subcontractor orders and delivery sequencing
  • CAN Bus Development: Design and supervise installation of onboard monitoring and control systems
  • Commissioning & Troubleshooting: Assist with sea trials and identify/resolve project bottlenecks
  • Compliance: Ensure specifications adherence and maintain current knowledge of maritime regulations


CORE COMPETENCIES, ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS and PREFERENCES

Educational:

A tertiary maritime technical qualification (e.g. 2nd engineer) from an accredited institution will be a distinct advantage. A Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering is a plus. 


Experience/Technical:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in yacht building environment.
  • Recognised yachting qualifications will be an advantage.
  • Super yacht working experience of onboard systems is a plus (electrical and electronic PLC system, hydraulics, water makers, air conditioning, refrigeration etc.).
  • Experience of High Voltage DC system (650VDC) and Diesel electric propulsion is a plus.
